"Those Who Pulled Out Of ASUU Strike Will Regret It" - ASUU
Ogunyemi made this known while speaking to The Punch correspondent, who asked on his view on the perceived disunity in the union’s ranks.

The Punch reports that since the commencement of the industrial action no fewer than 6 institutions who are members of the union had pulled out of the industrial action.

The President hinted that members that pulled out of the campaign were pressured to abandon the fight by their vice-chancellors, or governing councils.

Ogunyemi said,

“Those universities perceived as pulling out are certainly not against what we are asking for. Our members are in institutions like the Obafemi Awolowo University, which decided to work against us and deliberately sabotaged our efforts to reposition the universities.

“Those who said they do not agree with us are not against the funds for revitalisation that we are demanding. They are not against academic allowances or the payments of shortfalls that we ask for. They are not against fixing our universities.

“A lot of factors have to be considered when we talk about some universities pulling out. It is not that they actually mean to do so. Some intervening forces or variables may be at work. There are cases where vice-chancellors are overzealous, although they will be the greatest beneficiaries of what we are asking for. Some institutions were compelled by their governing councils to resume academic activities. In other situations, some governors or vice-chancellors deliberately created problems for us.

“Those vice-chancellors usually end up regretting their activities, but that does not stop us from resorting to our in-house procedure in dealing with chapters that pull out of national strikes. They will all be subjected to our in-house procedures.”

He however assured that 90 percent of its members were still in support of the strike action, noting that they were not bothered by the action of some of its chapters to abandon the industrial action.

He added that the conscience of these institutions will continue to speak against them, knowing fully well that when the goodies of the strike action begins to trickle in all the institutions in questions will be partakers of the benefits.

“Over 90 per cent of our members are still together and that is good enough for us because what we are doing now is a movement and those who fail to participate will regret their actions. They know that when the Federal Government releases funds for revitalisation, all public universities will be covered. The conscience of those who refused to participate in the strike will continue to prick them. Those who sabotaged us will have a moral burden and that is what we have always told them.

“If you go to state universities, many of the new projects you will see are technically being funded with capital funds from grants coming from NEEDs assessment and TETFund. If such universities are being forced to pull out, you will know that it is always against the wish of our members. We are not bothered.”]]>, 23 Jan 2019 07:22:19 3600

Over 300,000 Candidates Have Registered So Far For UTME 2019 - JAMB Announces
Dr Benjamin stated that the registration so far has been smooth, and the board is happy with the development because so far, there is just a tiny gap between the number of candidates that have acquired the e-pin and that of those that have registered,” he said.

Meanwhile, there have been calls that JAMB should set up centres across the states in Nigeria to handle candidates' biometric issues instead of such candidates going all the way to Abuja to solve the issues as this poses additional burden to the candidates and their parents.

However, Dr Benjamin insisted that all candidates with issues of biometrics must go over to Abuja for it to be rectified.

“I want to reiterate the fact that only the Registrar of the board has the sole right to attend to such issues. “Any candidate who may have issues with the capturing of his or her finger prints at their respective points of registration will need to come down to our office in Abuja. This will require the Chief Executive to do it himself for the purpose of security,” Benjamin said.]]>, 19 Jan 2019 07:52:46 3600

See Nigeria’s First Storey Building As It Records 13,609 Visitors In 2018.

First-storey-building-in-Nigeria the nigerian archive

A total of 13,609 visitors were recorded to have visited the ancient structure last year.
In 2016, News Agency of Nigeria reported that the first storey building in Nigeria, located in Badagry, Lagos State, hosted a total of 5,140 visitors from January to December 2016.
The previous year, 2015, recorded 3,457 visitors.
It seems the number skyrocketed in 2018, because of the proper maintenance of the structure and the efforts to preserve its originality.
The officer in charge of the building, Mr Hodonu Daniel, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday that the 172-year-old structure recorded 13,609 visitors in 2018, beating the previous 2017 record of 9,009 recorded in 2017.
NAN reports that the foundation of the building was laid in 1842 and was completed in 1845.
When stating the reason the old structure recorded such a high number of tourists, Daniel says that: “We recorded more tourists toward the end of the year when there were different festivals organised by people and the Local Government Authority attracted tourists to the site. Around August, we celebrated Coconut festival and many tourists that came for the event visited the site. Also during Diaspora festival, many foreigners came to the site."
“I’m sure that the patronage would be higher this year if the Federal Government will complete the reconstruction of the Lagos- Badagry Expressway, which is discouraging tourists from visiting the site," he adds. "The major challenge that we face is the deplorable state of the road, as this discourages tourists from coming to the various historic sites in the city.’’

He reiterated the call on the state government and private companies to assist in giving the structure a facelift.
According to him, only the Anglican Church is carrying out the task for now.

Buhari Calls APC Gov Candidate In Delta ‘Presidential Candidate’
Buhari who repeatedly called Ogboru, the party’s presidential and senatorial candidate was corrected by an APC chieftain who flanked him while handing the party’s flag to Ogboru.

His words:
“I am handing over this flag of honour to our presidential candidate.”

A man on the stage to his left corrected him, saying “gubernatorial”, but Buhari responded with “to our senatorial candidate”. Again, the man corrected him, saying “gubernatorial” and this time, Buhari said “governortorial candidate”.

However, reacting over the alleged statement, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in a statement tagged “APC Warri Rally:

Buhari Has Foreseen His Defeat – PDP”, poked fun at the incident, noting that Buhari has no intention of vying for the second term but was coerced by the cabal in his Presidency.

The party said Buhari has long foreseen and accepted his defeat come 16th February 2019.
